Wireless Security Assessment / Independent Audit of Your Hotel's WLAN

Wireless Security

In order to help you identify any gaps in the security of your hotel's wireless network -before they are discovered (and potentially exploited) by the bad guys -we encourage you to periodically have a detailed wireless security audit conducted by one of our wireless security consultants.

Wireless Security Assessment involves -among other things -investigation and documentation of various pieces of information that your hotel's wireless LAN may be broadcasting, and thereby making it readily available to others. The information collected during a wireless network security audit is crucial to not only analyzing and documenting any security gaps within your hotel's wireless network setup, but also to improving the overall security of your wireless network.

Some of the areas that our Wireless Security Audit typically covers include the following:

  • Thorough auditing of your Access Point (AP) configuration to identify any inadequacies,
  • Detection and logging of all wireless channels and ESSID in use,
  • Identification of any Access Points that may not have WEP enabled,
  • Identification of any AP that may not be setup to use strong keys,
  • Inspection of all beacon broadcasts to identify any frames that may be broadcasting information that may be deemed unsafe or insecure.
  • Scanning for any rogue access points in the general vicinity of your hotel's WLAN network perimeter,
  • Identification of any Access Points, Radios, or other broadcasting devices that may be radiating the signals that may be stronger (far-reaching) than what may be necessary.
  • Audit the wireless signal output from various devices to be within the limits as mandated by FCC.
  • Verify the IP addresses and MAC addresses of various devices connected to your WLAN network (including Access Points, Radios, etc.), and client interfaces.
  • Detailed reporting of any security violations or inadequacies so detected,
  • Detailed review and assessment of your hotel's current WLAN security policies,
  • Specific recommendations to help you fix any security holes so detected.

In addition to the above, there are several other tests that we conduct during the course of a wireless security audit -specifics of which are not being included here for obvious reasons.
