2Wire HomePortal 3000 Series Gateways For Multimedia, Multiplay Nintendo DS, Gaming Consoles
Because the VDSL modems integrated in most HomePortal® 3000 series residential gateways/routers support not only the fiber to the node mode, but also the fiber to the premises connectivity; these 2Wire gateways are well suited for provisioning high-bandwidth data feeds for applications that need support for multimedia data streams (such as IP video or IP based Audio for data, voice, and entertainment) that impose greater QoS requirements.
Most 2Wire HomePortal® 3000 Series Residential Gateways not only provide multiple network interfaces (Ethernet 10/100, Wireless 802.11g or HyperG, Multi-media over coaxial using MoCA or HPNAv3, USB 1.1, series-B port for PC and Mac connectivity and RJ-11 jacks for voice lines), but also have feature-righ applications such as an integrated firewall capable of Stateful Packet Inspection (Layer 4). In order to install/configure these devices you would need a computer (Windows 98, 98 SE, Windows 2000, ME, XP, Mac OSX 10.1 and higher) with either an Ethernet NIC, an 802.11g/b wireless adapter, or a USB port.
