Resetting / Changing Default Passwords on 3Com Wireless Home ADSL Gateways and Routers
All 3Com products are preconfigured with a factory default username and password.
However, considering that aforementioned authentication settings (factory default Administrator User ID and Administrative Access Password) are the same on every piece of wifi gear across various 3Com product-lines, it is not safe to operate your 3Com wireless hardware using its factory default configuration settings.
In case you have forgotten factory default usernames and passwords for your 3Com gear, we have listed below factory default settings for Username, Passwords, Access method, Default IP addresses, and Netmasks that some of these 3Com units come preset with:
Most 3Com ADSL Home Routers and Wireless Broadband Gateways:
- Default Username / UserID: ADMIN (or try lowercase)
- Default Password: (Leave blank, or try admin)
- Default IP Address: 192.168.1.1 or try 192.168.2.1
- Default Netmask: 255.255.255.0
- Also applies to 3Com Product #: Most Home Wireless Gateways, OfficeConnect ADSL Wireless 11g Firewall Routers, 3CRWE50194.

Most 3Com products are preconfigured to have either blank/comcomcom, admin/blank, blank/admin, or admin/admin for username and password respectively. Even though most 3Com devices are setup to 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0, a few of 3Com products have their network interface assigned to 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.*.254. Double check your product documentation to find out how your product has been preconfigured prior to shipping.
Seeing how predictable the default usernames and passwords are from the above, it should be clearly evident that you should change your password as soon as your new 3Com device powering up or reset to factory default settings.
