3Com ADSL Firewall Internet Gateway Routers : Change Default Password on 3Com Firewall Routers

3Com | DSL | Ethernet | Router | Wireless Site Analysis | Wireless Security | Wireless Networking Hardware

All 3Com Firewall Routers, and Cable/ADSL Wireless Internet Gateways are delivered with factory default username, password; and have a preset IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.1, 192.168.2.1, or 192.168.254.254) bound to their network interfaces.

As you may see from the following documentation, configuration screens for most of these products can be accessed (using wired access or remotely over the air) using one of these methods: HTTP, Telnet, Serial Communication Port (using a Null Modem Cable), SNMP, etc.

It would not be prudent, therefore, to operate your 3Com wireless hardware using its factory default configuration settings. Considering how well known aforementioned factory default authentication settings are, operating your 3Com gear in factory default settings mode would effectively leave you with a completely insecure network.

For your convenience, we have listed below factory default settings (Usernames, Passwords, Access method, Default IP addresses, and Netmasks) for select 3Com Wireless ADSL Cable Gateway Routers, and 3Com Internet Firewalls:

We highly recommend that your secure your 3Com hardware by using a non-obvious/private passphrase -use at least one (or more) numerals and/or punctuation marks within the first 8 characters of your password.

If your 3Com gear is not listed above, check out other similar documents available at this site. Remember, most 3Com products are preconfigured with (1) admin/blank, blank/admin, or admin/admin for username and password respectively; and (2) reachable at 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0, 192.168.2.1, or 192.168.*.254. Double check your product manual to find out how your product has been preconfigured prior to shipping.

Again, do not forget to change your password as soon as your new 3Com device is powered up for the first time, or is reset to factory default settings.
