This document provides step by step instructions on how to download and install the latest version of software for your Nintendo DS WiFi USB Connector.

If you have already installed your Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector and have a fully operational setup, there is no need for you to upgrade the software that came with your USB Connector.

On the other hand, if you are having difficulties in installing your Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector or in using it to play games online using a wireless link, you may want to consider downloading and installing the most recent version of software from the official Nintendo software download site.

Should you chose to upgrade to a newer version of the Nintendo USB wifi Connector software, you would need to first completely remove (uninstall) the software that is currently on your system, unplug your Nintendo DS USB Wireless Connector from your PC, and reboot your system before you install a software upgrade from the Official Nintendo DS USB WiFi Connector Software Downloads Website.

Here is How to Install/Upgrade Nintendo DS USB Connector Software:

  • Check the Current Version of your Nintendo DS WiFi US Adapter Software: You may have received one of the following software versions with your Nintendo DS USB WiFi Adapter: version 1.04 (if your installation is newer than 05/01/06), version 1.03 (release date: 01/18/06), version 1.02 (release date: 12/19/05), or version 1.01 (release date: 11/18/05). You may be able to find out your current version number by clicking on the help section and about page, or from your product/media documentation. On newer systems released after the date this document was put-together, you may see newer software versions not listed above.
  • Uninstall Nintendo DS USB Wi-Fi Connector Software: It is essential that you completely uninstall/remove the current version of your Nintendo USB Connector software and reboot your system before you attempt a software upgrade. Failure to do so may cause you more problems than what you may already be experiencing. See How to Completely Uninstall Nintendo DS USB Wi-Fi Connector Software From Your Windows XP Computer for detailed, step-by-step instructions.
  • Installing Nintendo DS USB Wi-Fi Connector Software from CD: Assuming that you have already uninstalled the current version (if any) of your software, you would need to disconnect the USB connector if it is still connected, reboot the computer, wait for the computer to power up again, and plug the connector into the USB port. If Windows XP does not detect the USB connector as a new device and prompt you to install it, it could be cause not all software components have been completely removed from your computer. When prompted, insert the software CD in your CD drive.

Software installation should automatically start shortly after you have inserted your Nintendo DS USB Connector software CD in your CD drive. If the Setup CD does not automatically start up shortly after (allowing it some time to spin-up and for it to be read by your Windows XP Plug and Play Services) it has been inserted, it may be due to the Autorun feature of your computer being disabled. If you do not see the Set up window on your computer shortly after you have inserted the CD into your CD drive, click on the Start button, click on Run, and then on the Browse button. Click on the drive letter for the CD Drive your Setup CD is in, locate the setup.exe file and double-click it to begin the installation process. If you do not have the latest software available on a CD, follow the instructions for downloading it from official Nintendo DS website as described below.

  • Download the latest Software if Needed:
Go to the Nintendo software downloads website, and click on the software version you wish to download. When you are prompted to either "Open/Run" or "Save" the file you are downloading, click on "Save" and tell the computer where to save it. Save it on the desktop or in a folder (that you would remember) on your disk. Note: if you were to click on Open/Run option, you would not have a copy of this file on your local drive should you need to install it again on this or other computers. Make a note of the location where you have asked your computer to save the file being downloaded.

  • Upgrade to the Latest Nintendo DS WiFi USB Connector Software Using the File You Have Downloaded: Once the file has been downloaded, browse to that folder/location (desktop or a folder on your hard drive), and look for a file named Nintendo_WFC_USB.zip. You would need a utility program (like WinZip) to unzip (uncompress) contents of this file archive. If you do not have it, download it from Download.com or TuCows.Com. Most file compression software packages (Winzip included) make available a version for unrestricted personal/non-commercial use. Unzip the content of this Nintendo_WFC_USB.zip. file, locate the Setup.Exe (you may have to browse into another folder called "NintendoWFCReg") extracted from it, and double click on it to begin the installation process. Follow the screen prompts to complete the installation. If you encounter any error messages during/after the software installation process, see Why Nintendo DS Software for WiFi USB Connector may Fail to Install on Your Windows XP Computer for help.

Even though it is not necessary that you have the latest Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector software installed on your system, you may want to consider upgrading to its most current version if you are experiencing any installation and/or high-speed/WiFi connectivity issues.
