This document contains information on why a fresh install of Nintendo DS WiFi USB Connector software (including an Upgrade and/or Uninstallation thereof) may possibly fail on a Windows XP Personal Computer.

If you have landed on this page while looking for an explanation for why you are encountering some errors while trying to install/uninstall software for your Nintendo DS Wireless Adapter afresh, or as you were trying to upgrade it to a newer version; read on for information on how to troubleshoot the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi USB Connector installation process. If you are still unable to get your Nintendo DS WiFi USB Connector to work using the information included herein, consult with other documents listed near the end of this document.

Resolving Nintendo DS Wi-Fi USB Connector Software Installation/Upgrade and Uninstall Errors:

  • Is Your Computer Directly Connected to Your Internet Gateway? Before we start looking into finer details, please verify that the computer that you are trying to install/uninstall the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi USB Connector Software on is the one that is directly hooked up to your broadband connection -i.e. your ADSL cable modem, or your Broadband Wireless Router. In other words, if you are on a local area network (a LAN) that has only one computer connected to the Internet (using an ADSL modem, a wireless broadband router, etc.), the USB connector should be installed on the computer with the modem. Considering that Nintendo DS Wireless USB Connector works like an Access Point, it must be installed on the computer that is wired to your Internet gateway. You may be able to make it work on other computers (depending on whether or not, and how your Internet Connection Sharing or ICS is setup), but getting the WiFi USB Connector to work on such PCs is almost always more complicated.
  • Is Your Internet Uplink Operational?: Verify that your computer has a link to your Internet gateway modem/router, and that you are able to reach Internet from the computer you are trying to install your Wireless USB Connector on. Most Internet modems/routers are configured to use DNS server managed by your Internet access provider -i.e. your ISP, Telco, etc. Furthermore, if your Internet connection (your WAN uplink) is down, there is a good chance that even the DHCP server embedded within your ADSL/Wireless Internet gateway Modem/Router may also not work. Should that be the case, routing within your local area network, dynamic IP address allocation, Network Address Translation (NAT), domain name services (DNS resolutions), etc. may also fail. It is important, therefore, that before you try to install/upgrade the software for your Nintendo DS USB Connector, your Internet gateway is powered up, connected to the Internet, and fully operational. You may get a host of errors if you are trying to install or uninstall a software package on a system that does not have fully operational network communication channels.
  • Do You Have Rights to Install or Uninstall Software on Your Windows XP PC? If you are not logged in using an Administrator account, please verify that your user ID has been granted rights to install (or Uninstall) software on that computer. Windows XP will not allow you to (un)install software unless your user ID has been granted sufficient Admin Rights -directly, or indirectly as a result of your membership to a user group that has been duly authorized to do so. Here is how to determine if you have Admin rights:
    • Click the Start Button, and then on the Control Panel.
    • Select User Accounts.
    • From the list of User Accounts displayed, select your User Account.
    • Check to see if you have been granted Administrative Rights on this PC.
    • If your User ID does not have Administrative Rights, seek assistance from your Administrator.

If you do not have sufficient rights, Windows XP will not allow you to uninstall Nintendo DS WiFi USB Connector software.

  • Perform the DEVREMOV process: If still unsuccessful, review your documentation on how to use DEVREMOV.exe software application (located on your Nintendo DS WiFi Installation CD inside NintendoWFCReg/SoftAP folder) to Uninstall the USB connector software. After the DEVREMOV process has been completed, remove the USB connector from your computer, reboot your PC, and try again.

Allow us to stress this -once again -that unless the previous instance of USB Connector software is completely (i.e. every single component thereof) removed from your PC, you may not be able to reinstall (or upgrade) the Nintendo DS WiFi USB Connector software on your computer.
