Configure Nintendo DS for Different 2Wire Firmware Versions and Factory Default Settings
Even though most newer versions of 2Wire wireless broadband gateways and online multiplay gaming consoles (such as Nintendo DS or Nintendo WFC) can be automatically/effortlessly configured to work flawlessly with each other, there are times when one has no options but to configure them manually.
In order to manually configure your gaming console's (Nintendo DS') wireless interface so as to successfully associate with your Wireless Access Point (Wireless Gateway), you would need to know: Identification details (SSID, and possibly it's IP-Address/Netmask, Default Gateway, and Primary/Secondary DNS Host Addresses), and Authentication details (possibly username/password, and security/encryption WEP keys). You will also need to ascertain that both of these devices (Nintendo DS and your Wireless AP) are setup to operate (or at least capable of falling back to) WiFi (IEEE 802.11b) Mode.
Here is the problem: Your 2Wire Wireless Gateway may be setup differently depending on the version of the firmware/software that it may be currently running on. Now, here is the good news: There are probably no more than a few different ways that most 2Wire devices are preconfigured with, so you may not have to deal with more than a couple of possibilities.
Here is how to manually configure Nintendo DS to work with 2Wire wireless gateways:
- Open the Nintendo DS’ Setup Utility:
- Go to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings:
- Tap onto one of the Connection Save Files: That is, on CSF 1, 2, or 3.
- Now select Manual Setup:
- Under Auto-obtain IP Address section: Tap on No -we will not be using DHCP.
- Enter SSID: Usually, it is in the form of: 2WIRExxx -where xxx is the last three (3) digits of your 2Wire gateways serial number that can be found on the bottom of the your 2Wire HomePortal.
- Enter WEP Key: Usually, this is a ten (10) digit number. See your 2Wire product manual for instructions on how to retrieve this from your 2Wire device.
Now, Depending on the version of your 2Wire firmware/software, you may have to enter rest of the information differently as shown below:
- If you have 2Wire Gateway Software Version 3.1 to 3.5.x:
- Default IP address on 2Wire Routers: 172.16.1.15
- Default Subnet Mask on 2Wire Routers: 255.255.255.0
- Default Gateway on 2Wire Routers: 172.16.0.1
- Primary DNS on 2Wire Routers: 206.13.30.12 (note: This appears to be a SBC DNS Host address. Check your product manual and with your broadband provider to see if this has changed and/or you need to set it differently)
- Secondary DNS on 2Wire Routers: 172.16.0.1
- Default IP address on 2Wire Routers: 172.16.1.15
- If you have 2Wire Software versions 3.5.15, 3.5.151, 3.7.x or higher:
- Default IP address on 2Wire Routers: 192.168.1.15
- Default Subnet Mask on 2Wire Routers: 255.255.255.0
- Default Gateway on 2Wire Routers: 192.168.1.254
- Primary DNS on 2Wire Routers: 206.13.30.12 (note: This appears to be a SBC DNS Host address. Check your product manual and with your broadband provider to see if this has changed and/or you need to set it differently)
- Secondary DNS on 2Wire Routers: 192.168.1.254
- Default IP address on 2Wire Routers: 192.168.1.15
- If you have 2Wire Gateway Software Version 3.1 to 3.5.x:
It is quite possible that if you have a newer 2Wire Broadband Gateway, it may be preconfigured differently than what we have stated above. Should that be the case, configuration as stated above may not work for you. Please review your product documentation for most accurate information related to your 2Wire hardware before making aforementioned configuration changes.
