3Com Access Points : Change Factory Default Administrative Password for Security
Just like all other 3Com Wireless Access Points, your 3Com AP has been factory configured to use a rather well-known factory default username and password combination.
Your 3Com Access Point –as it is delivered to you –may be setup to require either no (a blank) password at all, or to use something as obvious as admin, password, or comcomcom for full administrator access passcode.
You should, therefore, change your password as soon you have powered up your 3Com Access Point for the first time, or every time you have to reset it to its factory default settings.
As may be evident from the following, what 3Com uses as factory defaults (for Username, Passwords, Access method, Default IP address, and Netmask, etc.) for various 3Com APs is highly predictable:
3Com® OfficeConnect® Wireless 54 Mbps 11g Access Point, 3Com® OfficeConnect® Wireless 11a/b/g Access Point:
- Default Username / UserID: admin (lowercase only)
- Default Password: (leave blank)
- Default IP Address: 192.168.1.1 (or try 169.254.3.1)
- Default Netmask: 255.255.255.0
- Also applies to 3Com Product #: 3CRWE454G723, 3CRWE41196
- Default Access Method: Multiple including HTTP, SNMP
- Access Level: Administrator level access
3Com® Wireless LAN Access Point 8250, AP-8750, 3Com® Wireless 7760 11a/b/g PoE Access Point AP-7250, 3Com AP 6000, AP-3750, AP-2750, AP-2000 (WL-308):
- Default Username / UserID: (leave blank, try admin if prompted)
- Default Password: admin (lowercase only)
- Default IP Address: 192.168.1.1
- Default Netmask: 255.255.255.0
- Also applies to 3Com Product #: 3CRWE80096A, 3CRWE60092A, 3CRWE20096A 3CRWE725075A, 3CRWE820096A, 3CRWE850075A, 3CRWE870075A, 3CRWE825075A, 3CRWE875075A
- Default Access Method: Multiple including HTTP, SNMP
- Access Level: Administrator level access
We highly recommend that you change your password to something non self-evident –preferably using one (or more) numerals and/or punctuation marks within the first 8 characters of your passphrase.
If factory default settings for your 3Com AP are not listed above, try: admin/blank, blank/admin, or admin/admin for username and password respectively. If in doubt, double-check your product documentation.
We cannot emphasize this enough: Please change your admin password as soon as your 3Com AP is powered on for the first time, and every time you reset it to factory default configuration.
